Gregory Proves worth the wait with 11-length Listed win at Newmarket
We may not have seen Gregory that frequently in recent years but he has been worth waiting for and has bounced back as good as ever this season with two wins from his two outings.
His most recent triumph was emphatic indeed: an 11-length romp in the Listed Jockey Club Rose Bowl Stakes at Newmarket on the opening day of the Cambridgeshire meeting.
“This was Gregory’s first run for a while and he did it well off a strong gallop from which there were no hiding places,” said co-trainer Thady Gosden.
“We’ve given him a bit of time since his last win at York and James Doyle thought this two miles was the top end of his range.”
Now six, Gregory burst onto the scene as a three-year-old, winning his first three starts, including the Listed Cocked Hat Stakes at Goodwood before becoming the first ever Royal Ascot winner for Wathnan Racing in the G2 Queen’s Vase.
He may well be seen next back at Ascot for the Qatar Racing British Champions Day on 17 October.
Gosden added, “He likes this quick ground and he’s in the Long Distance Cup, which is an option, or there’s a race in France after that.”
