Olly joined Wathnan Racing in 2022 and has been instrumental in the early development of Wathnan as a global racing stable, One of the most experienced, well-liked and respected members of the international bloodstock community, Olly boasts an impressive career which spans the racing world. Racing in the Gulf has been a big part of Olly’s career.
For 15 years, Olly played an integral role at Darley, starting when it had studs only in Britain and Ireland, establishing its farms in Australia, then moving on to also manage operations in Japan and the United States. In 2010, he assumed a global leadership role based in Newmarket, where he was responsible for Darley worldwide. Olly has held several prestigious positions within the industry, serving as the President of the Hunter Thoroughbred Breeders Association in Australia, and as Director of Aushorse, the representative body of commercial thoroughbred breeders in Australia, from 2006 to 2008. In 2009, Olly was elected to the Breeders’ Cup Board of Directors, Members and Trustees, where he held the role of Audit and Finance Chairman until 2013. Olly and wife Amber own Twin Hills Stud in Australia where they are involved in all aspects of the bloodstock industry, from standing stallions to consigning at all the major Australian sales. Olly comes from a family steeped in horseracing: his great-grandfather began breeding thoroughbreds in the early 20th century, while his grandparents bred the Australian Champions Heirloom, winner of the 1000 Guineas, and juvenile Triple Crown winner Baguette. Olly’s parents bred and raced 14-time G1 winner Tie The Knot, among many other distinguished runners.
