Richard’s introduction to racing was attending jumps meetings with his father, and – having left school at 16 – worked in racing stables and stud farms in England, the US and New Zealand. A founding director of leading bloodstock agency Blandford Bloodstock and based in Newmarket, Richard has purchased numerous Group 1 winners at public auction, most famously Epsom Derby hero Desert Crown, star sprinter Dream Ahead, and both Champion juvenile Perfect Power and his sire Ardad. Twice Bloodstock Agent of the Year, Richard is also a Council Member of the Federation of Bloodstock Agents. Richard’s role within the Wathnan Racing team includes finding opportunities for the purchase of horses for Wathnan Racing and managing the day-to-day racing operations in Europe, reporting to Olly. Richard helped source Wathnan Racing’s first Royal Ascot winners, Queen’s Vase winner Gregory and Courage Mon Ami, who took the 2023 Gold Cup, as well as the 2023 Qatar Derby winner, Jeff Koons, and has sinced uncovered all four of Wathnan’s 2024 Royal Meeting winners, two at auction and two privately.
